ARGENTINE TRANSLATORS AND PROJECT MANAGERS WEIGH IN ON HOW NEW TECHNOLOGIES WILL IMPACT THE TRANSLATION INDUSTRY

Rosario Traducciones y Servicios SA conducted its annual survey of Argentina's translation industry for the third consecutive year. During the month of May 2019, translators and project managers were asked to answer different questions about their working lives.

Translators were asked their opinion about the foreseeable impact of new technologies on the translation industry. They answered as follows:

●     Make translation tools more efficient (59%)

●     Facilitate the use of tools (56%)

●     Improve the quality of MT (52%)

●     Develop stronger tools (33%)

●     Increase reuse (28%)

●     Improve knowledge management (27%)

●     Facilitate integration (27%)

●     Improve customer support (23%)

●     Improve the cost of procurement - licenses, maintenance, training, etc. -  (19%)

●     Develop tools with more languages (13%)

●     Does not know/no response (6%)

●     Others (5%)

 On the other hand, project managers, who were asked the same question, responded as follows:

●     Improve the quality of MT (71%)

●     Improve knowledge management (65%)  

●     Make translation tools more efficient (65%)  

●     Facilitate the use of tools (59%)  

●     Improve customer support (47%)  

●     Develop stronger tools (47%)  

●     Improve the cost of procurement - licenses, maintenance, training, etc. - (41%)  

●     Facilitate integration (41%)  

●     Develop tools with more languages (29%)  

●     Increase reuse (18%)

Relationship with social media networks

They were also asked about their relationship with social media networks. Almost half of all translators surveyed (45%) responded that they give little importance to their profile on social media; whereas 33% said it was fairly important; 14%, very important; and 8%, not important.
